Anger

I wrote the following in response to someone saying I'm an angry person.

I, nor my parents, are to be blamed for my anger. I am a mere product of my environment: a great country that has seen better days. Yes, I am angry. I am angry that good, caring men and women who happen to be attracted to their own sex are not afforded the same rights that are given to bigots, criminals, and murderers. I am angry that the government feels within its bounds to tell a woman that she MUST have an unwanted child, without regard for the quality of life that that child would see. I am angry that the men and women leading our country have become so corrupt with power that they begin wars on false terms so that they may see profit while innocent men, women, and children die (both military, and civilian). I am angry that the words of our founding fathers prohibiting the mixing of church and state have been thrown by the wayside by Christians who believe that this country is to be led by the religious right, by word of fictitious being (AKA God). I am angry that those who believe that life is so precious that we must now protect those who are not yet alive are the first to throw (already-born) Americans with loving parents, siblings, spouses, and children, into harm’s way. I am angry at the fact that the liberties that our brave servicemen and women are dying for have been revoked by the government that claims it wants to keep us free. I am angry that freedom, liberty, and patriotism, all causes I hold dear in my heart, have been simplified down into mere buzzwords used by politicians to garner the votes of ignorant citizens who have no true understanding of the real meaning of such concepts. I am angry that the cause of equality, for which many, many true patriots, such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., have sacrificed everything, has been forgotten about in our crusade-era witch hunt of potential terrorists. I am angry that true Americans who subscribe to the Islam faith have been stereotyped, singled-out, and selected as the only terrorists capable of mass-murder. I am angry that a generation of youth, capable of so much positive output has replaced political activism and concern for everyone’s well-being with Guitar Hero and sex drive. I am angry at the injustice, hypocrisy, and lies, outright LIES, that have become so accepted and commonplace within our government and society as a whole.
In short, yes, I am angry. Yeah, I’ve got problems. I’m a fucked up kid. But I know what matters, and I know what’s right in the end.
“Sometimes you’ve got to get angry to make a positive chang in your life and in this world…From anger and rage comes rebellion.”
-Sean Murphy
